Dancers lassoed in fourth annual spring roundup
The Fourth Annual Spring Round Up weekend came and went the weekend of April 21-23. There was an estimated 400 to 500 people who attended the roundup, sponsored by the Rainbow Wranglers, a Cleveland country-western line dance club. Events included a "Trail-in Dance" at Rockies nightclub, a "Dance Around Cleveland" bus tour, and the Colonel's Ball, held for the first year at historic Grays Armory.
The annual roundup raises money for charitable organizations in the Cleveland area. This year's recipients were the Center for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, a battered women's support service, and FACT (Facing the AIDS Challenge Together), an AIDS service agency.
The final figures for the roundup have not yet been released, but committe chair Gerry Wheeler estimated that there will be between $2,000 and $2,500 to be split between the two agencies, once the bills have been paid.
The weekend's activities began Friday, April 21 at the Envoy apartments in Lakewood, where guests were welcomed and

treated to a complimentary buffet. Then it was off to Rockies for some country line dancing, more food, and a whole lot of fun. When asked how his night at Rockies was, Jim Tate, a visitor from Vancouver, British Columbia replied, “It was fabulous!"
On Saturday, April 22, 40 people gathered at Archwood United Church of Christ and then boarded a big pink bus to depart for an afternoon adventure. The enthusiastic country group toured through downtown Cleveland, stopping to dance at historic sites such as the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, Public Square, and Playhouse Square.
Saturday evening was a night for laughter, making new friends, and good times at the Colonel's Ball at Grays Armory. Entertainment provided by country western clubs from across the country and Canada was a mainstay of the evening. Singer Penny Rachelle, who has performed at all four roundups, said "I think it's wonderful, after I did it the first year, I asked them if I could come back!" Clay Angus was another performer at the ball. He stated that "This is very different from the bars, [the Armory] is bigger. I hope it is here again next year."
On Sunday, April 23, the last day of the Spring Round Up, the dance club U4ia hosted a full brunch buffet and entertainment provided by several of Cleveland's own outstanding local performers. Brunch was followed by even more dancing.
The weekend came to an end at the Ohio City Oasis for some last minute dancing, and a big country good-bye to the Fourth Annual Spring Round Up.
